I am sorry for posting in the wrong place. Now things start being more interesting. I tried all of the updates you suggested, plus the flasher software … none of them were able to update this particular OEM drive while in safe mode … appears the programming is able to recognize this drive in safe mode but unable to complete the update tasks involved …. With this update for the GH10N the GH10L seems to function ok, however, after trying to burn to an old blank CD with scratches the drive started wirrring and did not stop until after i powered down the computer … perhaps it did not like the cd … I will first find some new cds and DVDs and make sure everything is burning ok ….
